Aksys Networks team members have a diverse range of telecom industry experience. The team is putting this experience to use by creating innovative VoIP telecom products for the smallest of businesses.
Management
Martin Sunstrum
Martin Sunstrum is the CEO, President and founder of Aksys Networks. Martin brings over 20 years of considerable executive, management and design experience in the telecom industry. Prior to founding Aksys Networks, Martin was the VP, Advanced Communication Terminals at Aastra Telecom. He was also involved in many telephony designs and some of the early VoIP developments at Nortel Networks. In addition, he gained extensive telecom design and manufacturing experience with companies such as Interalia and Newbridge Networks.
Alan McNaughton
Alan McNaughton is the COO of Aksys Networks. Alan has over 20 years experience in product development, management and business development including with Rydex Industries and INETCO Systems in Burnaby, BC and with Global Thermoelectric in Calgary. He was head of sales and marketing at Global for 3 years starting in 1989. He then spent another four years at Global building their fuel fired heater division that was successful in securing a major production contract with the US Army. Alan's startup experience includes AutoBranch Technologies Inc. which he co-founded in 1999.

Their leading technology has been incorporated into products offered by world-class companies such as Nike, Polar and Garmin. Kip is the 2002 recipient of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, and he lead the successful acquisition of Dynastream by Garmin in December 2006.

Successes include Jasomi (now Ditech), 180-Connect (public), Guest-Tek (public), FSA (now McAfee), PowerBroker (now Symantec), LoadBalancer (now IBM), HighPoint (now Symantec), StoresOnline (now Imergent), and Receipt.com (now Tumbleweed). With a computer science education and 25 years of startup company growth activity, Freedman brings an unusually pragmatic viewpoint to the boardroom during good and bad times.
Rob Freeman, Founder and CEO of Canada’s leading independent long distance company London Telecom.
What started as a way of cutting costs for his one man real state brokerage was eventually built into profitable long distance telephone business with over 300 employees & 150,000 customers being billed monthly. Rob was recognized as one of the "Top 100 Entrepreneurs" for 1994, 1995 & 1996 by the Ontario Business Journal. In 1997 & 1998, his company's marketing group, along with Kane Design of Hamilton, Ontario, won several "Gold" awards, for advertising creative excellence at the ACE Awards. In 1999, London Telecom was sold to Primus Communications for $67M.
